Google, parent company of YouTube, has agreed to a settlement of $30 million to benefit the class members. It resulted from a class action lawsuit that was filed against YouTube alleging that it has violated the COPPA by collecting personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.
This settlement is going to benefit the class members, i.e., individuals who were younger than 13 years and watched children’s content on YouTube between July 1, 2013, and April 1, 2020. Note that the filling of the claim form has already started. If you are among the class members, you are required to submit it to get a portion from the total fund.
Note that the fund will be distributed among the class members after deducting for the attorney fee and expenses, administrative costs, and service awards to class representatives’ guardians. Note that the settlement administrator has an official deadline to submit the claim form; it is January 21, 2026.
