The settlement of the $2.5 million resulted from the class action lawsuit, which was filed against the company with allegations that it had violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) by failing to delete consumer data after deletion requests and sharing outdated information with a debt collector.
As of now, the settlement has received the preliminary approval from the court. Note that the defendant has agreed to a settlement but didn’t accept any wrongdoing. What’s the TransUnion FCRA Class Action Settlement about?
Back in 2023, plaintiff Wilson filed a class action lawsuit against the company with allegations that it had violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act by continuing to share outdated consumer information with PRA. After that month’s legal proceedings, the defendant agreed to the settlement of $2.5M.
In September 2025, the details about the TransUnion FCRA Class Action Settlement were made public with the launch of the portal, and in the following month, all the class members received a notice from the settlement administrator, which has many crucial details about getting the settlement.
As there is no provision of claim form submission for the class action settlement, each individual who won’t have manually excluded himself or herself will surely get the payout. Note that the deadline to opt out from the class members and object to the settlement is November 4, 2025.

Who is eligible for the payout?
To get the payout from the TransUnion FCRA class action settlement, it is mandatory that you meet the eligibility requirements.
- You are a citizen of the US and reside in any territory of the country,
- You were assigned a user reference number listed in the data shared between TransUnion and PRA, and
- For your reference number, the TransUnion sent PRA data through its ‘Triggers For Collection’ for more than two business days even after PRA submitted a request to delete.
Note that the incident must be between January 20, 2021, and December 31, 2023. Additionally, it is mandatory that you have received a notice from the settlement administrator with the Claim ID and PIN.
How and how much settlement payout will be received?
Under the $2.5 million TransUnion FCRA class action settlement, the payment is going to be received by all class members. Note that the payout amount is going to be different from one another for each class member of the settlement. Each eligible individual is expected to get an average payment of $40.
The payout under the TransUnion FCRA class action settlement is going to be received via paper check. It will be received directly at the residential address of class members. Note: after the release of the payment, it is expected to be received within a week; for the remote areas, it is likely to take up to 10 days.
When to expect the payment?

If the final approval is received without any appeal, the payout check is expected to be sent out probably in March 2026.
