The City of Hope has agreed to the settlement of $8.5 million to resolve a class action lawsuit filed against it for the 2023 data breach. The fund is all set to be distributed among the class members whose personal information was compromised in the data breach.
In October 2023, someone accessed the computer server of the City of Hope and accessed the personal information of more than 800,000 patients. After that, in April 2024, the organization notified the individuals who were affected because of the data breach.
In mid-2024, a class action lawsuit was filed against the City of Hope alleging that it failed to take appropriate measures to protect the crucial data of its patients. And after the month-long discussion, the organization agreed to a settlement to benefit the class members.
The court gave the preliminary approval to the settlement in September 2025, and in the following months all the affected individuals were notified of the settlement with the class process and eligibility. The due date to file a claim form is January 13, 2026.
