The antitrust lawsuit against the defendants as they agreed not to compete with health insurance selling and commercial health benefit products administration in Puerto Rico and the United States. This affected the healthcare costs and users because it ended the competition.
If you have health insurance covered under the BCBS and claim the settlement before 05 November 2021, you can receive the payout from the net settlement of $1.9 billion. You will receive the payout based on the premiums and administration fee you paid.
When can you expect the Blue Shield Blue Cross Settlement payout?
The Blue Shield Blue Cross settlement was reached in October 2020, and the deadline to claim the settlement was 05 November 2021. The federal court has approved the BSBC settlement in the final hearing; however, many appeals were filed against it.
The appeals against the BCBS settlement have stopped the payment distribution and further review of the claims. The appeal was resolved in June 2024, and since then, the class members who have filed the claim form have been waiting for the payout.
According to the settlement administrator, the administration has reviewed the claim forms and started sending the claim determination notice via postcard or email to the claimants. The administrator has not updated the payment date, but we expect it to be processed before the 2025 end.
How to check your BCBS settlement payout status?
Since the payment date is not finalized yet, you can check if you will receive the payout or not by checking your claim form status in the following steps:
- Visit the official website of BSCS at https://www.bcbssettlement.com/
- Now, go to the “I Would Like To” on the menu bar and click the “Check My Claim Status.”
- Now, enter your claim number or Unique ID on the new page and submit it.
- Afterwards, your BSBC claim form status will appear on the screen, where you will know if the administrator has approved your claim or not.

What will be your BCBS settlement payout amount?
The BCBS class members are insured groups and individuals who enrolled in BCBS health insurance between 07 February 2008 and 16 October 2020, and the self-funded accounts from 01 September 2015 and 16 October 2020.
The administrator will distribute the payout from the net settlement fund of $1.9 billion, which will be separated based on the above two classes of claimants, in the following way:
- The Individual and Insured Groups settlement fund is $1.78 billion.
- Self-funded Accounts and their workers’ settlement fund are $120 million.
The respective class members who have filed the claim form will receive the payout from their respective funds. If your payout is above $5, you will receive the payout from the settlement. The amount is not determined yet for each person, as many factors are involved, and it may vary for each claimant.
What should you do if your information is changed?
Since the claim form was filed a few years ago, it is possible that the claimant’s payment method information can be changed. If you face the same situation, you should take the following action to ensure the payment reaches you whenever the distribution begins:
- You should inform the Settlement administrator through the contact channels listed above, via phone, mail, or email, about the change in payment method information.
- If you wish to change your payment method to electronic, you can also request the administrator, and they will process the payment accordingly.
