Comerica Bank and Conduent State & Local Solutions have agreed to the settlement of $2 million to resolve a lawsuit filed against them alleging that disputes of the many California Way2Go prepaid Mastercard cardholders were denied due to conflicting information, which has violated the Electronic Funds Transfer Act and California law. 

The class action lawsuit was filed against the companies in 2023 with the title Sparkman v. Comerica Bank, et al., with Case Number 4:23-cv-02028-DMR at the Northern District of California. And then Comerica Bank and Conduent State & Local Solutions and the plaintiff went through the discussion, and they reached a settlement of $1.956 million.

Both companies agreed for the settlement to benefit the class members, i.e., individuals whose disputes of unauthorized payment were denied. The details about the settlement were also made public in September 2025, after getting the final approval from the court. The settlement web portal and details were disclosed on the very same date.

How to get the Way2Go card class action settlement?

If you are among the class members, you will surely get your portion from the settlement fund. Note that to get the payout from the Way2Go card class action settlement, there is no provision for claim form submission. But to get the payment via paper check, it is mandatory that you update your address with the settlement administrator.

If you want to get the payment via direct deposit, you need to provide details by logging into the web portal. The date for the opt-out, i.e., excluding oneself from the class members and objecting to the Way2Go card class action settlement, is November 10, 2025, and the final approval for the hearing is going to take place on December 11, 2025.

Who will pay out from the Way2Go card class action settlement?

To get the payout from the California Way2Go card class action settlement, it is mandatory that you are among the class members. To be among them, it is mandatory that you meet the following conditions:

  1. You are a resident of the United States, and you live in California, andย 
  2. You hold a California Way2Go prepaid Mastercard card.
  3. You disputed an unauthorized transaction on July 20, 2020, or after, and it was denied due to conflicting information, and
  4. You have received a notice from the settlement administrator with the Notice ID and PIN.

You will get the payment from the Way2Go card settlement only if you haven’t opted out from the class members. 

How to set up a payment method to get the Way2Go card settlement payout?

In order to set up a payment method for the Way2Go card class action settlement, please follow the step-by-step instructions.

  • Go to the official settlement portal at https://www.caunauthorizedtransactionssettlement.com/.
  • Find the option of โ€˜Update Addressโ€™ if you want payout via paper check or on Electronic Payment Method Selection to get the direct deposit.
  • Fill in your Notice ID and PIN, and solve the CAPTCHA, and then click on the Verify button.
  • Provide the address you want to get your paper check, or the details of the bank where you want to get direct deposit.

How much can be received from the Way2Go card settlement?

If you are among the class members of the Way2Go card class action settlement, you will surely get the payment if you have updated your address with the settlement administrator or chosen an electronic payment gateway. The payout amount is going to be different from one another for each individual.

You will get a payout from the settlement administrator of about 73% of the disputed transaction amount. If your disputed amount was $1,000, the payment you are going to get is $730. Note that if you choose the direct deposit, you will get your payment earlier, and in the case of the paper check, you may have to wait for a few days. 

Note that the payment will be distributed among the class members within 90 days after the final approval. If the final approval for this case is received with appeals, you will have to face a long delay in getting the payout.
